Building a Support System of Community and Faith
Are the many things that you could have as part of your parent tool kit, community is both important and often underrated. We carry several hats of responsibilities, it can often feel as though once you do have that moment of pause after the dishes are done, the kids are in bed, that all you wanna do is put your feet on the couch and sleep. Believe me I get it. Friendship can seem as though it’s a luxury, something afforded by only those who have zero responsibility. Yet God gave us the gift of companionship, to share a life with someone else, to be encouraged and challenged in a way that he purposed. Below, I provide verses that can encourage, but also two major characters in the Bible, who also experienced loneliness and sought God‘s refuge. Moses: felt overwhelmed leading the Israelites and sought God’s guidance (Exodus 33:12-14). Emphasize how he found strength in his relationship with God. Elijah: experienced isolated after a significant victory (1 Kings 19:1-4). God met him in his solitude, providing nourishment and purpose Psalm 46:1: “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” Discuss how parents can turn to God as a source of strength during difficult times. Isaiah 40:31: “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.” God can transform feelings of isolation into renewed energy and purpose.
